Till now, we have discussed the importance of On-Page SEO for better ranking.

Now let us move on to practical part.

There are many On-Page SEO Techniques that we should apply to our website in order to boost ranking in search engine. Today, I will explain the absolute techniques and settings we should apply on our website.

Content Optimization

A website with excellent content can perform well with or without SEO, while a website having poor quality content would not be able to survive with or without SEO.

A website with good quality and optimized content always perform better in SEO.

Now let us through some light on what is Good Content-

Avoid Copied Content – We should always publish fresh and original content. Search engines only promote original content. Articles, text, images, videos, presentation, infographics, comments etc all should be new and fresh.

Content published on our website first – Even if the content is written by us, if we have published that content on another website, then that content is of no use for our website.

Content should include text as well – Always try to have text along with our non-text content. Let say, if we post any videos on our site, we should try to add a text description to accompany that video. Same is the case with images as well.

Useful content- We should always focus on what is getting published. Always make sure that whatever goes live should add value to our website and business.

Frequency –  Always establish a posting frequency and should strictly stick to it.

Page Title, Meta Description, and Formatting

This is very important for On-Page SEO. When Search engines are “crawling” our pages, among the things, they check the title of the page, description of the page, heading and the content (images, text, and videos).

All this is done just to understand what is that particular all about. And then based on other factors like Off Page SEO, Domain Authority, Competition etc., they rank our page for various keywords.

Page Title – Every individual page should have a unique title that helps search engine and users to understand what that page is all about. Always remember that a page with Title “On-Page SEO Techniques” is much better than a page having the title “index.html”. Also, a title of the page should contain a focused keyword.

Description – A page description or meta description is something that users will see in the search engine result page. It comes under the page title in SERP(search engine result page). It should be descriptive, and up to 160 characters and unique for each page. A meta description should contain at least one focused keyword and one secondary keyword.

A good page description is an opportunity to attract searchers and to convince them to visit our page for their search query.

Page Formatting – A web page needs to be properly formatted. It should be having a heading {H1} and subheading {H2}

Important parts and points or words of the page should be highlighted with bold, italics, and underline.

The post should be readable. Like the use of small paragraphs, bullets, and numbering instead of long paragraphs. Also, we should take care that word limit should not be more 300 words under each subheading.

Images

Images play a very important role and are good for presentation purpose. But images also need to be optimized and should not increase the loading time of the webpage.  Best practices for using images:

  • Always use original image. And if we want to use an existing image, we need to reference the source.
  • Size of the image should be optimized. The smaller the size of the image, the faster loading speed will be there.
  • Always use an ALT Tag for image description. This practice helps search engines to understand what the image is about.
  • Use of descriptive filenames. We should always use descriptive filenames for the image like “man-driving-car.jpg” instead of “image.jpg”.

URL Structure

The URL plays an important role in On-Page SEO. Please have a look on the below description:

Permanent Links – A permalink or permanent link is the unique URL for every individual page. A good and optimized URL should be less than 255 characters and use hyphens to separate the different parts. An URL should be self-explanatory.

Categories – Always group the pages into different categories to help search engines and users to identify and find what they are looking for easily and faster.

Internal Linking

Linking our pages within our website is very important part of On-Page SEO.

Placing other web page links on our website is a great way of improving our site and if used properly, it can be a great SEO weapon.

It not only makes easy for users to navigate our site and find all the content. But it also ensures that the website is properly crawled by search engines and allows all the pages to get indexed. It helps in increasing the Google PageRank of our page for the relevant keywords on which the internal link was done.

Best Internal Linking practices:

  • Do not use keywords for internal linking only.
  • Always add internal links only when they are useful for our readers.
  • If possible, links should be added in the main body of our web page instead of footer or sidebar.

Speed And Mobile

Last but not the least, these two On-Page SEO techniques are becoming very much important.

Speed: Google had officially added up speed as one of the ranking factors. As per one of the Google Algorithms that is Humming Bird, website loading speed should be fast. If proper SEO is done, but the loading speed of the website is slow, it will definitely give a negative effect on website ranking.

Mobile Friendliness: Almost more than 60% of the online searches are now happening from mobile devices. It means if our website is not mobile and tablet responsive, we are straight away losing a good amount of traffic.
